Men have really been getting into a good manscaping routine the last few years. From skin care, to back shaving and yes, scrotum shearing men are going all out to maintain a manicured look.

But on the subject of how to shave your balls, many guys really are confused on how to shave balls without causing any problems.

I could go for some easy jokes here about an ingrown hair on balls, but the reality is that you do need to be careful. You’re dealing with some sensitive skin that also is in a humid environment for most of the day.

In this article I am going to get your manscaping totally on point by covering the best way to shave your pubic hair and come out with some fresh as morning dew balls in the process.

Let’s dive right in!

Why You Should Shave Your Balls

Shaving your manhood takes a good bit of effort and post shave care, so it needs to be worth it.

So what are some benefits to shaving your balls?

To Satisfy Your Partner

It’s no secret that men and women alike prefer their partner to be clean shaven in the groin department.

It feels better and in many cases looks better to the person who as to deal with your private parts.

Of course, this all depends on who you ask, but these days, women like to see men put in some effort into their grooming and this plays a big part of it.

It shows that you care about your partner’s experience when you shave your balls clean.

Hygienic

Signs are that pubic lice, aka crabs, are slowly dying out because there are so few people with pubic hair now.

This is a good sign that shaving all of your pubes is a good hygienic move.

Aside from that there are other questions about your hygiene when you don’t shave.

Having a lot of pubic hair means trapping heat and moisture in your groin. This can harbor bacteria and allow them to grow. You may not be in danger of catching any diseases because of it, but the smell surely is not pleasant.

If you already have a stinky crotch then this is the very first thing you should do about it.

Heightened Sensuality

Everybody is looking for ways to jazz up their time in between the sheets and enjoy something different.  When your partner is enjoying the novelty of your smoothness, it goes a long way to opening up a much more sensual world.

You feel things that you wouldn’t have felt with a mound of pubic hair covering your skin.

Objects Appear Larger

This one is going to sound like a bit of a joke, but it really is true. Many guys are hiding the true length of their penis. When you take away the hair you can see exactly how big it is. Guys that are less endowed may see some real time benefits from having less hair there.

The Downside to Shaving Your Scrotum

There are some cons to shaving your pubes. Nothing is perfect after all.

Here are some things to keep in mind that may have you thinking twice about shaving your balls.

It Gets Itchy

There are no two ways around it. When the hair starts growing in it’s uncomfortable. It gets itchy. Your underwear gets stuck in the stubble and you can’t find a good position. Then the loose skin of your balls is rubbing against what basically amounts to sandpaper all day.

Always Be Shaving

To piggyback on the point about it being itchy, to avoid it you have to always be shaving. Or waxing or whatever way you decide to depilate.

In other words, it’s a commitment. Are you ready to do this often? Because if not then you’re going to be dealing with the effects of it growing in every time you do decide to shave if you don’t keep up with it.

Nicks and Cuts

Anytime you put blade to skin you have to accept that there will probably be some blood shed.

This is especially true when dealing with an area with loose skin and lots of nooks and crannies.

Obviously if you take care and pay attention to what you are doing, the chances of a cut are much lower, but mistakes do happen.

Infections

Since there is a lot of humidity in your groin, it is very easy to cultivate a nice little colony of bacteria when you are not careful with your shaving products. Your razor has to be impeccably clean. Way more than the one you use on your face.

Otherwise you risk giving yourself a very uncomfortable and potentially harmful bacterial infection.

If you do manage to cut yourself, then this bacteria can get in there and wreak havoc.

Ingrown Hair on Balls

Since there are folds of skin on your scrotum, your hair growing in can easily be trapped. When this happens you end up with an ingrown hair in what could be the worst place to have it happen.

How Do You Shave Your Balls the Right Way?

To really learn how to shave balls safely and comfortably, you need to follow some steps that will help.

Preshave Prep

Before you get to business you need to properly set up shop. Having everything ready and prepped beforehand will make for a much more pleasant experience.

Make sure you are trimmed first. A razor will struggle against full length hair so you need to make sure it is slightly longer than stubble at the longest.

Take a pair of scissors and trim, being careful of the tip to not snip anything down there.

Or you could use a trimmer that works great at trimming pubes.

Once your hair is at a manageable length for the razor, you should hop in the shower. When your skin and hair are wet, it helps the razor glide across the skin without any drag and the softened hair is much easier to cut cleanly.

I wouldn’t recommend doing the shave in the shower as you won’t be able to see what you are doing.

Have a full length mirror ready for when you are done so you can really see everything.

While you are in the shower, make sure you wash the area well. You need to get rid of any bacteria that may be lingering there.

Lather It Up

Once you are out of the shower and dried off, you can start getting down to work.

Use a shaving cream that doesn’t foam up. Like a lotion, really.

Something like this Aveeno shaving gel from Amazon.com will do very nicely as it gives you a really smooth shave and also helps to prevent ingrown hair on balls. Well, it’s formulated for countering ingrown hairs on your face, but the result is the same.

It will moisturize the skin, so it helps soothe when you shave and leaves the skin plump and hydrated afterwards.

Choose Your Weapon

You have a few options available for razors. For this article I am talking about shaving with razors, by the way. We have another article about using the Norelco 3100 that you can take a look at, but for the sake of this article I am focusing on regular razors.

You can use a regular cartridge razor or a safety razor. Do not, for the love of all that is right in the world, use a straight edge razor. I am not even joking, you really do not want to do that.

In fact I wouldn’t even recommend using a safety razor as they are very sharp and can slice any loose skin right off. At least a cartridge razor doesn’t allow for too much skin to get in between the blades, so nicks are nothing serious, albeit uncomfortable.

It’s a misconception that using a manual razor will be more likely to nick you than an electric. Both can nick or cut you equally. An electric has moving parts that can get a loose piece of skin very easily.

Pull the Skin

Loose skin is to be avoided at all costs. When your skin is pulled taut, you’re providing a shaving surface that is ideal for your razor.

Lift your balls up and start from underneath. When you get to the looser areas of the scrotum, pull it up as much as you can to make it as smooth a surface as possible.

Not only will you reduce the nicks and cuts, but the smoother the surface, the less irritation and razor burn you’ll encounter.

Make Gentle Strokes

Try to go in the direction the hair grows, but honestly, this may prove difficult. When your hair is covered by the gel or cream, it will be hard to see the growth pattern.

Basically, move slowly and when you feel like you may be going against the grain, stop shaving. Then come in from the opposite side and switch direction to go with the grain.

Aftershave

After you’ve finished up with the shave and cleaned all of the shaving cream off of your groin, it is time to disinfect and moisturize.

Unless you are a total masochist, you don’t have to use an aftershave that will give you that burn you get on your face. In fact it will be 10 times worse.

No, instead use a good aftershave balm.

This one from Amazon.com is ideal because it not only disinfects, but it soothes skin that just got nuked by a sharp razor. Since your balls and groin are very sensitive, it will feel rather raw down there. Much more raw than your face since the skin is totally different.

Rub it in until it is all absorbed before getting dressed and you will be very thankful.

Clean Your Gear

You should be keeping all of your grooming tools clean and sanitized, but this is especially true for your pubic razor. After every use you should take a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol. This will keep any bacteria from growing on it that you could potentially spread.

Always keep your razor in a dry area. You don’t want it to be in a puddle of water as it can attract bacteria and also will dull the blade.

After every use, make sure you have all of the hair cleaned off of the blade. Hair is acidic and will dull the blade very quickly if you leave it on.

How to Shave Balls | Post Shave Care

To minimize your discomfort, you should continue to shave every 3 days or so. Or, just as things start to get itchy.

But, to prevent any type of itchiness, make sure you use some powder down there. This will keep your skin dry and smooth. A popular powder for when you shave your balls is Gold Bond body powder from Amazon.com. It is really good at keeping this cool down there as well as to prevent chafing. You’re going to have some parts rubbing against each other when you’ve gotten rid of the hair so this will help a lot.

Another tip is to wear loose fitting underwear. You want some airflow down there to keep this dry. Boxer shorts are a good start. And try to avoid wearing tight pants. Make sure there is room there to move around. Otherwise you’ll have parts sticking to each other and it will drive you crazy.

How to Shave Balls Without a Razor

If you really don’t want to learn how to shave your balls, here are some other effective ways to get rid of your pubic hair without having to shave.

Depilatory Cream

If you want to do things the quick way, then you can try a hair removal cream for pubic hairs.

This one from Amazon.com is formulated especially for men so you can use it anywhere on your body.

Be warned, though. You’re dealing with a sensitive area and this can burn. Make sure you read the directions before using and always do a patch test on a small area first to make sure it isn’t going to give you a chemical burn.

You can read an entire article dedicated to depilatory creams to see which one might be best for you by clicking the link.

Electric Shaver

If you don’t want to use a regular razor, and you have an electric razor already, then give it a shot.

There are many that are just as effective at shaving your genitals as a regular manual razor.

I wrote up an article on the difference between electric shavers and regular razors so click the link to read it.

Trimmers

If you really don’t want to deal with shaving your balls every few days then you might want to consider using a trimmer to just keep it tidy down there. You won’t have to deal with itchiness and you’ll only need to do maintenance once in a while once things start getting bushy.
